Rioting Kinyui Boys High School students in Kangundo yesterday burnt down a dormitory in an early morning attack.
The dormitory, which was recently rehabilitated following another violent strike last year, was reduced to rubble.
Students' property which included metal boxes, mattresses, sheets and blankets and personal effects were burnt beyond salvage during the 3.30 am inferno.
Last November, the school experienced its worst student unrest ever when they torched the administration block, four dormitories and extensively destroyed classrooms and laboratories occasioning damage estimated at over Sh6 million.
Yesterday's damage was estimated to be over Sh500,000 with the school Principal John Kyeva terming the incident as shocking.
"I have served in this school for only two weeks. This is a rude welcome by the students," said Kyeva.
The school was not shut down as the Board of Governors and police were grilling students to ascertain the circumstances behind the incident.
Burned student property was strewn all over the school compound following futile attempts by the learners to salvage them.
Neighbouring Kinyui shopping centre was in a state of shock as locals thronged the institution and tried to come to terms with the students' action.
The Kinyui incident comes in the wake of another violent strike at neighbouring Tala High School on Thursday in which students also burned down buildings at the institution.
